Resources - Article: Success Should Come Effortlessly to You
By Lynn Marks - The Messenger
Coach, Speaker, Author

We have been told all of our lives to play hard and work hard. If we concentrate all of our energies and give it all we've got, we are told we will earn our success the old-fashioned way.

I, however, am not old-fashioned and do not subscribe to that theory. Instead of trying to be successful, it should just be a general state of being. It should be part of who you are. It should be effortless.

Why else do we all aspire to find a job that doesn't seem like work? A job that is fun and seems to come so naturally to us?

If you are struggling and things are hard you are in the wrong place. What is the right place? Effortlessness. When we are coming from effortlessness things happen easily. I didn't say you are not suppose to work, but it is how and on what you work that matters.

If you are putting forth extra effort and trying hard in your personal and/or professional life you may be putting your energy in the wrong place. What you are doing probably doesn't reflect who you are. When you are busy doing what someone else wants you to be it is usually not who you are naturally.

Effortlessness is being natural. There's much talk today about being-in-the-flow. This is just another way of saying doing what comes naturally as opposed to forcing a situation and making it happen. When you are going against-the-stream, against your stream, you are not honoring your natural talents, interests and skills--your gifts.

Effortlessness is doing what you really love to do. You may do it and "work" at it but you are coming from a place of total love and it feels like "play."

It is time to stop doing things to impress others or to prove your worthiness. This is the struggle because it is for them.

Effortlessness is giving-up worrying. We tend to worry when we are coming from struggle. Worrying is a kind of thinking, mind-chatter, if you will. Worrying is something we do to ourselves. We create it when doing something for someone else to get something. It usually revolves around proving that we are acceptable or good enough. We tend to worry about what others think and want--first. And, in doing so, we leave out our feelings, needs and wants. When you do things for yourself--first-- you shift from feeling stuck and helpless to being in action and happy.

Effortlessness is attracting opportunities. Today many people talk about facing challenges. I want you to consider opportunities. When you are coming from effortlessness you are present to come from "being" not "doing" you. You are comfortable with yourself and only engage in activities and people which bring you pleasure. Now, because you are not worrying about what someone might think, you can be open--not to the challenges, they are struggles--to opportunities. Opportunity is right there in front of you just waiting for you to discover it and open the door.

What I want for you is to shift your focus. It is time to shift from "what you do" to "who you are." You may wear many hats and do a variety of things in your lifetime. And, when people want to do business with you is won't matter how many financial planners, CPAs, attorneys, doctors or CEOs they know. They will be attracted to you for who you are. That is when you are in the "being" state. You are not working at who you are; you are who you are. Success is being effortless.
